Brrrr Breakfast Ride

December 21, 2008

The temperature on the bank sign in McKinney showed a chilly 19 degrees, but the warmth of friends and food at CJ’s in Whitewright later made the ride worthwhile.  I joined Bo’s ride at Anna after making a short stop to put my rain mittens over my gloves to help cut the wind from robbing the warmth of my heated grips.  I tried to find some warm air coming off of the K engine to get the circulation moving in my big toe again.  Bo changed the route up a bit to shorten the ride, but in doing so found a previously paved road in the midst of a gravel construction phase.  It was all good, though with it being hard-packed surface, and as always, made the ride just that more interesting.  We arrived in Whitewright and quickly went in to the café, bringing all of our gear along to keep it warm for the return ride.

The food was good as always, and the cold weather made the coffee and spanish omelet taste even better.  The return ride was chilly and the temperature at noon in Wylie was still freezing.

The sun helped a bit and heading south towards home cut the wind also.  The joy of the ride and seeing friends and meeting new ones made the cold weather effort worth it.

P.S. – Today is the winter solstice, so now the days will be getting longer for that next warm weather riding season.
